Youth Health Line Counselor

About the role

HealthNet TPO Afghanistan provides primary health care, mental health and psychosocial services, malaria control and mother and child health care across almost 20 provinces of Afghanistan. It is looking for a Youth Health Line Counselor to provide effective telephone counseling to young people, update databases and refer them to appropriate services while keeping their information confidential.

Key responsibilities

• Provide effective telephone counseling to young people and refer them to available referral services
• Ensure confidentiality and client trust during counseling
• Update and enter data into the database
• Attend related training programs and staff meetings regularly
• Keep IEC materials and audio-visual materials properly maintained
• Document information by entering, transcribing, recording and storing it in written or electronic form
• Prepare a monthly report of related activities and submit it to the line manager (Program Coordinator)
• Coordinate with other staff to deliver accurate referral services and create a supportive, confidential environment for clients
• Modify referral and counseling approaches as needed to match clients' changing needs
• Perform other project-related tasks assigned by the line manager

Required profile

• Graduate from a recognized medical university (medical doctor)
• At least two years of work experience in counseling
• Fluency in both Pashto and Dari, and basic knowledge of English
• Good communication skills and the ability to interact successfully with staff and clients
