About the role
Humanity & Inclusion is seeking an Assistive Technology Technical Officer to strengthen assistive technology services in Afghanistan. The role focuses on wheelchairs and positioning devices, improving local production, quality, and supply chain sustainability.
Key responsibilities
- Assess and support local workshops producing wheelchairs and positioning devices, providing on‑the‑job coaching on design, assembly, fitting and finishing.
- Review and develop technical specifications, quality criteria and production processes for priority assistive products.
- Provide technical guidance on production planning, costing, pricing, marketing and business models to improve efficiency and sustainability.
- Deliver targeted training, coaching and capacity‑building workshops for workshop staff and rehabilitation stakeholders.
- Document findings, lessons learned and recommendations, and prepare a handover package for continued work after the assignment.
Required skills
- Technical assessment of local manufacturing capacity for assistive devices.
- Quality control and product specification development for wheelchairs and positioning chairs.
- Supply chain analysis and procurement technical support.
- Capacity‑building and on‑the‑job coaching for workshop staff.
