Vaccinator - Immunization Services

About the role

HDDO, funded by the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund, is implementing a project in Daykundi Province to strengthen life-saving health and nutrition services for communities affected by conflict and disaster. Vaccinators deliver routine immunization and outreach vaccination through Static Health Centres (SHCs) and Mobile Health and Nutrition Teams (MHNTs), following the Ministry of Public Health Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) and national guidelines. There are 5 female vaccinators at SHCs and 6 male vaccinators on MHNTs.

Key responsibilities

• Administer vaccines according to the national EPI schedule, verify eligibility and give caregivers pre- and post-vaccination information.
• Provide outreach vaccination in underserved communities, coordinate with community health workers and follow up on missed vaccinations.
• Maintain cold-chain conditions, check expiry dates and report cold-chain breaches immediately.
• Monitor vaccine stocks, record consumption and report shortages or wastage.
• Record every vaccination in registers and support daily, weekly and monthly EPI/HMIS reporting.
• Identify and report suspected adverse events following immunization (AEFI) to the clinical supervisor.
• Follow infection prevention and control and safe injection practices, and dispose of sharps safely.
• Integrate immunization with other primary health care services and refer sick children to the MD doctor.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Midwifery, Vaccination/EPI or another relevant health field.
• Recognized EPI/Vaccinator training and certification required or highly desirable.
