Medical Doctor - Primary Health Care

About the role

HDDO, a non-profit, non-governmental organization implementing a nine-month AHF-funded project in Kunar and Nuristan provinces, is hiring a Medical Doctor for a project-supported health facility in Kunar Province. The doctor provides safe, evidence-informed primary health care, including curative and preventive consultations, emergency stabilization and referrals, and contributes to maternal and child health, infection prevention and control, quality improvement and HMIS reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clinical consultations and manage common illnesses within professional competence and approved protocols, and prescribe medicines responsibly
• Assess and stabilize urgent or life-threatening conditions and arrange timely referrals to higher-level facilities
• Support maternal, newborn and child health, including danger sign recognition, immunization promotion and referral of pregnant women and children
• Deliver preventive health services and health education on communicable diseases, water, sanitation and hygiene
• Ensure clinical quality, patient safety, informed consent and confidentiality, and handle patient complaints through established channels
• Implement infection prevention and control measures, including hand hygiene, PPE and safe disposal of sharps and infectious waste
• Maintain accurate clinical records and submit routine HMIS reports on time
• Guide nurses, midwives and other staff, give supportive supervision and identify training needs
