About the role
The WHO Afghanistan Country Office is seeking a Surgical Oncology Consultant to strengthen surgical oncology services nationwide. The consultant will work on a four‑month full‑time assignment, assessing existing capacities, training surgical teams, and supporting policy development in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health and key cancer centres.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct a comprehensive assessment of surgical oncology infrastructure, workforce, and service delivery across national and regional hospitals.
- Identify gaps, develop evidence‑based recommendations, and produce an action plan for service improvement.
- Train and mentor surgical teams in evidence‑based oncologic procedures and peri‑operative care.
- Support the establishment of multidisciplinary surgical oncology units and patient navigation pathways.
- Assist in strategic planning and policy formulation for the National Cancer Control Program.
Required profile
- Extensive experience in surgical oncology, preferably in low‑resource settings.
- Proven ability to assess health services and develop improvement plans.
- Experience in capacity building, training, and mentorship of surgical teams.
- Strong collaboration skills with ministries, hospitals, and international partners.
