Community Based Facilitator - WASH

About the role

World Vision Afghanistan is hiring a Community Based Facilitator for WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) in Chaghcharan. This is a full-time field role with 90% of the time spent in the field, on a local fixed-term contract. The post ensures that WASH components of the project are implemented in line with community needs and standards, with strong community engagement and consultation at every stage.

Key responsibilities

• Design and manage assessments and baseline studies with the WASH team to identify health risks and priorities, and identify barriers to good hygiene and design context-appropriate responses
• Develop culturally acceptable IEC materials and adapt training materials for community development and informal education
• Deliver behaviour change training on hand washing with soap, water treatment and latrine use, and promote hygiene among children
• Establish and train volunteer WASH groups and community mobilizers, orienting them on data collection tools and reporting
• Assist project engineers and distribution coordinators in identifying sites and households for water resources construction and disease outbreak responses, in consultation with local authorities and beneficiaries
• Report on project progress to the WASH engineer, update weekly reports, and work with monitoring and evaluation staff on WASH targets
• Maintain beneficiary databases and comply with accountability standards, safeguarding policies and donor requirements, including community feedback and complaint mechanisms

Required profile

• 1-2 years of experience with hygiene and sanitation behaviour change approaches and community mobilisation projects
• Diploma in Public Health, Social Science or Environmental Science
• Ability to engage and mobilise community groups and leaders; knowledge of important hygiene behaviours
• Good attention to detail, willingness to travel throughout the project area, and Dari, English and Pashto (Pashto preferred)
