Protection Officer

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Protection Officer to lead protection‑focused activities across its programmes. The role involves building capacity, managing referrals, and ensuring protection‑sensitive implementation of cash assistance and other distributions for vulnerable populations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide capacity‑building and training to field staff and partners on protection mainstreaming, safe identification, referral procedures and cash‑assistance SOPs.
• Identify protection, GBV, child protection, disability, health, shelter, WASH, legal and other critical needs through safe screening and facilitate inward and outward referrals in line with SOPs.
• Maintain accurate referral documentation and ensure timely entry into tracking systems such as CommCare.
• Coordinate with service providers to verify eligibility, availability and response timelines, and conduct regular service‑mapping and coordination meetings.
• Ensure inclusive, protection‑sensitive implementation of MPCA and other distributions, supporting equitable access for women, girls, persons with disabilities, the elderly and other vulnerable groups.
• Document and report all protection activities, referrals and screenings confidentially and on schedule.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in humanitarian protection, GBV, child protection or related fields.
• Strong understanding of “Do No Harm”, inclusive programming and data‑protection principles.
• Ability to work with diverse stakeholders and maintain confidentiality.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills.

Required skills

• Experience using CommCare or similar referral tracking systems.
