Field Security Guard

About the role

The Field Security Guard provides physical security for UN premises and staff in Kabul and Kunduz, ensuring safe entry, patrol, incident response and support to the UN security workforce.

Key responsibilities

• Control entry to UN compounds, screen personnel, packages and vehicles, and issue building passes.
• Conduct routine patrols, monitor fire, water leakage and other hazards, and keep accurate patrol records.
• Respond to incidents and emergencies, instruct staff on fire control and evacuation procedures, and report breaches to supervisors.
• Open and close buildings, verify that equipment and utilities are switched off after hours.
• Provide continuous coverage of CCTV, telephone and radio systems from the Control Centre.
• Assist with investigations, incident reporting and liaison with local authorities, fire services and emergency responders.
• Drive UN officials, deliver mail and documents, and handle airport, visa and customs formalities when required.
• Collect, analyse and present security data, update web pages or brochures, and maintain security personnel lists.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; security‑related university degree or police/military training may waive experience requirements.
• Minimum 1 year of progressively responsible safety and security experience, preferably within the UN or another international organization.
• Good knowledge of Kabul city, local roads and security area conditions.
• Familiarity with UN security rules, fire safety, first‑aid procedures and standard security protocols.
