Patient Aid

About the role

The Afghan Midwives Association is seeking a Patient Aid to support hospital patients in a midwifery-led maternity care centre (MLMCC). The role works under the supervision of registered midwives and contributes to safe, respectful maternal care.

Key responsibilities

• Assist patients with basic tasks such as bathing, dressing, eating, mobility, and personal hygiene.
• Take patient observations, report changes to midwifery staff, and assist with patient assessment under supervision.
• Transport patients within the hospital, turn and position patients, and manage toileting and bedpan needs.
• Collect specimens for laboratory tests, deliver them, and perform other errands as required.
• Maintain cleanliness of the unit, manage linen supplies, and support environmental safety.

Required profile

• At least a high school diploma; experience in a similar position is desirable.
• Good health, physical fitness, and ability to follow directions and prioritize tasks.
• Strong communication skills in Dari/Pashtu (written and oral) and two positive references.
• Commitment to the midwifery profession and the values of the Afghan Midwives Association.

Required skills

• Basic patient care techniques (bathing, feeding, mobility assistance).
• Specimen collection and transport.
• Ability to use and maintain medical equipment and supplies.
