Risk Specialist – UNDP Afghanistan

About the role

The Risk Specialist will support UNDP’s Transitional Country Programme Strategy in Afghanistan, helping to design and implement a risk‑informed crisis response. The role focuses on integrating humanitarian, development and peace mandates while ensuring that interventions are resilient and aligned with the "do no harm" principle.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain risk management frameworks and tools for programme implementation.
• Conduct risk assessments and scenario analyses across socioeconomic resilience, health services, and recovery interventions.
• Provide risk‑based guidance to project teams, partners and UN Country Team members.
• Monitor risk indicators, produce regular risk reports and advise on mitigation measures.
• Support adaptive management processes and facilitate coordination among UN agencies, NGOs and national partners.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in risk management, development studies, economics, public health or a related field.
• Relevant experience in humanitarian or development contexts, preferably in conflict‑affected settings.
• Familiarity with UNDP policies, the triple‑nexus approach and risk‑informed programming.
• Strong analytical and communication skills, with ability to work across diverse stakeholders.
