Country Director - Afghanistan

About the role

Sadath Foundation, a humanitarian NGO registered in Australia and Afghanistan, is looking for a Country Director to lead its work in Afghanistan. The Country Director provides strategic vision, executive leadership and operational oversight, acting as the main representative in-country. The role covers programme planning and delivery, donor relations, national staff management and compliance with Afghan authorities and international donor standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and execution of high-impact community programmes aligned with the foundation's mandate, and set up monitoring, evaluation and reporting mechanisms.
• Identify funding priorities and draft project proposals to secure institutional and private funding.
• Act as principal liaison for international donors, partner agencies, UN clusters and coordination bodies, representing the foundation in negotiations and sector meetings.
• Ensure compliance with the Ministry of Economy and other line ministries, and align operations, procurement and HR with humanitarian principles and donor compliance frameworks.
• Oversee the country portfolio, including annual budget development, cash-flow monitoring and internal financial controls.
• Supervise and mentor national team members and maintain security protocols to protect field personnel, assets and project sites.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in International Development, Health, Medicine or a related field.
• At least 2 years of experience in humanitarian work in Afghanistan or a similar context.
