Casual Couple Enumerator (Mahram Sharihya Couples)

About the role

Mercy Corps Afghanistan is hiring casual enumerators to support its Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) function. Enumerators carry out beneficiary registration, verification and a range of assessments such as baseline, midline and endline surveys, post-distribution monitoring, activity output monitoring, needs assessments and disaster risk management assessments in targeted districts. The position is paid by day or assignment, not by a fixed monthly salary.

Key responsibilities

• Collect data for beneficiary registration and verification, baseline, midline and endline surveys, post-distribution monitoring, activity monitoring and other program assessments.
• Help prepare, test and upload digital data collection tools.
• Obtain informed consent from all respondents before interviews.
• Conduct interviews and focus group discussions clearly, accurately and neutrally.
• Check completed questionnaires for accuracy, consistency and completeness before submission.
• Upload data to the designated server within agreed timelines and assist with basic data cleaning and verification.
• Report field challenges, security issues or inconsistencies to the supervisor immediately.
• Represent Mercy Corps professionally with community members, partners and local authorities.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in social sciences, computer science, economics, engineering or another relevant field.
• At least 2 years of experience collecting data for humanitarian or development projects, preferably in livelihoods, market systems or disaster risk reduction contexts.
• Familiarity with mobile data collection platforms such as ODK, ONA, CommCare or Kobo.
• Reports to the MEL staff and works closely with program technical teams.
