Psychosocial Counsellor

About the role

EQUALITY for Peace and Development Organization (EPDO), a women's rights non-profit based in Afghanistan, is recruiting a Psychosocial Counsellor to provide psychosocial support to project beneficiaries in Nangarhar province. The role works closely with project teams to deliver holistic support and to train staff and volunteers on basic psychosocial support.

Key responsibilities

• Provide psychosocial support to beneficiaries, including individual and group counselling sessions addressing emotional, social and mental well-being needs.
• Help beneficiaries cope with trauma, stress and challenges related to poverty, conflict or displacement.
• Identify at-risk individuals and refer them to specialized services or healthcare providers.
• Conduct community awareness sessions on mental health, well-being and psychosocial support.
• Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in all interactions with beneficiaries.
• Monitor and document psychosocial activities, participant engagement and outcomes.
• Train project staff and volunteers on basic psychosocial support and referral mechanisms.
• Support the development of tools and resources for psychosocial activities.
• Report regularly to the Project Manager on activities, challenges and lessons learned.
• Ensure all work complies with EPDO and donor safeguarding, gender and inclusion standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work or Counseling.
• 3-5 years of experience in psychosocial support, counseling or community-based services.
• Proficiency in Farsi/Pashto; English desirable.
