Nutrition Intern

About the role

International Medical Corps, a global humanitarian nonprofit providing healthcare training, relief and development, is recruiting a Nutrition Intern. The internship covers community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM), nutrition screening, counselling and data, and takes place under the guidance of a designated supervisor.

Key responsibilities

• Learn CMAM and national nutrition guidelines, and observe screening for acute malnutrition using MUAC, weight and height/length.
• Understand identification and referral of children with severe and moderate acute malnutrition, and nutrition screening, counselling and infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices.
• Learn about nutrition registers, reporting tools, data collection and data quality.
• Observe management of nutrition supplies, stock records and storage practices.
• Understand how nutrition services integrate with primary healthcare, immunization and community mobilization.
• Take part in learning sessions and supportive supervision visits with the supervisor.
• Follow the Code of Conduct, uphold humanitarian principles and international humanitarian law, and actively promote PSEA standards.
• Support a culture of compliance and ethics, and safeguard populations from sexual exploitation and abuse, exploitation, neglect and abuse of children and adults at risk, and trafficking.

Required profile

• Completion of 12th grade.
• Fluency in both Dari and Pashto.
• Resident of Paktika Province; preference is given to local applicants.
