Nurse Sterilization

About the role

The Afghan Midwives Association seeks a qualified Nurse Sterilization to manage the full sterilization cycle for surgical sets and medical devices. This full‑time position is based in Kabul and supports safe patient care through rigorous decontamination processes.

Key responsibilities

• Perform sterilization, registration, and packaging of sterile surgical sets, medical devices, and drapes according to AMA protocols.
• Conduct pre‑disinfection, cleaning, and high‑level disinfection of soiled instruments.
• Inspect, reassemble, and replace defective instrument sets, ensuring they meet standard lists.
• Maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles, track packs to wards, and manage storage of sterilized items.
• Supervise cleanliness of the sterilization room, conduct end‑of‑shift cleaning, and run monthly inventory with timely ordering.
• Provide regular feedback to the line manager and report any incidents.

Required profile

• Registered Midwife or Nurse with at least three years of experience in a similar sterilization role (desirable).
• Strong communication skills in Dari/Pashtu; English proficiency is a plus.
• Two positive references from previous employers or educators.
• Commitment to the midwifery profession and association values.

• Inventory management and monthly ordering of sterilization supplies.
• Record‑keeping of sterilization cycles and ward distribution.
