Knowledge Management Officer – Fixed Term

About the role

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN‑Habitat) is seeking a Knowledge Management Officer on a fixed‑term basis to support its work in Afghanistan. The role will contribute to the design, implementation and monitoring of knowledge‑sharing processes that enhance the effectiveness of UN‑Habitat’s urban development programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain knowledge‑management systems to capture lessons learned, best practices and project documentation.
• Facilitate the synthesis and dissemination of information to internal teams, partners and stakeholders.
• Support the preparation of reports, briefs and knowledge products aligned with UN‑Habitat’s strategic objectives.
• Coordinate with UN country teams, technical and financial partners to ensure timely and accurate information flow.
• Contribute to capacity‑building activities on knowledge‑management tools and methodologies.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in information management, urban planning, development studies or a related field.
• Relevant experience in knowledge management, documentation or information systems within an international development context.
• Strong analytical and writing skills, with the ability to produce clear and concise knowledge products.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in multicultural and challenging environments.

Required skills

• Proficiency in knowledge‑management software and databases.
• Excellent command of English (written and spoken).
