Assistive Technology Technical Officer (Kabul)

About the role

The Assistive Technology Technical Officer supports Humanity & Inclusion’s rehabilitation programmes in Afghanistan by strengthening the availability, accessibility, quality and sustainability of assistive technology services, especially wheelchairs and positioning devices. Reporting to the Rehabilitation Specialist, the role is based in Kabul with occasional travel to other provinces.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and coach local workshops on the production of wheelchairs and positioning devices, improving technical capacity and product quality.
• Review and develop technical specifications, quality criteria and production processes for priority assistive products.
• Provide technical guidance on production planning, costing, pricing, marketing and business models to enhance supply chain efficiency.
• Deliver targeted training, on‑the‑job mentoring and capacity‑building workshops for workshop staff and rehabilitation stakeholders.
• Document findings, lessons learned and recommendations, and prepare a hand‑over package for continued work after the assignment.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or professional qualification in a relevant field.
• Experience working with assistive technology, rehabilitation or related humanitarian projects is desirable.
