Agronomist Officer

About the role

Cordaid, an international emergency relief and development organisation active in Afghanistan since 2001, is recruiting an Agronomist Officer. This advisory role provides technical guidance to farmers on crop selection, soil management, pest control and sustainable farming practices, while also supporting research, field trials and farmer training.

Key responsibilities

• Advise farmers on crop selection, soil management, pest control and sustainable farming practices.
• Research crop varieties, soil health and agricultural technologies to improve yield and sustainability.
• Design and oversee field trials evaluating new crop varieties and agricultural practices.
• Collect and analyse agricultural data to inform decision-making and policy recommendations.
• Organise training sessions for farmers and agricultural workers on best practices and innovations.
• Provide technical guidance and practical training to female beneficiaries receiving sapling and vegetable seed assistance, covering sapling selection, planting, spacing, watering, care, protection, kitchen garden planning, soil preparation, seed sowing, irrigation, crop management, pest and disease control and harvesting.
• Work with agricultural extension services, government agencies and research institutions to implement agricultural programmes.
• Assess the impact of agricultural practices and programmes and recommend improvements.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Horticulture or a related field; a master's degree is preferred.
• Relevant experience in agronomy or agriculture-related roles, including fieldwork and research.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
