UN Volunteer Nurse – UNAMA Medical Section

About the role

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) is seeking a qualified National UN Volunteer Nurse to join its Medical Section. The role combines remote support activities with full‑time onsite clinical care at the UNAMA medical clinic in Kabul, contributing to the health and safety of UN personnel.

Key responsibilities

• Attend and support remote meetings, webinars and CME sessions, taking minutes and monitoring participation.
• Manage the JMS appointment group mailbox, directing client requests to appropriate staff.
• Provide hands‑on nursing care on site, including medication administration, IV line management, patient monitoring and documentation.
• Collaborate with physicians, paramedics, pharmacists and other team members to ensure integrated patient care.
• Maintain emergency preparedness by checking crash carts, equipment and medication inventories.
• Dispense medications, monitor stock levels and support pharmacy logistics.
• Coordinate team meetings, staff leave planning and monthly nursing reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Clinical Nursing, Emergency Nursing, Intensive Care or Infection Prevention and Control.
• Valid nursing license in the home country.
• At least five years of progressive clinical nursing experience in a high‑acuity hospital setting.
• Fluent English language proficiency.
• Certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS); PHTLS desirable.

• Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or equivalent trauma certification.
