Safeguarding Coordinator

About the role

The Safeguarding Coordinator will be based in Kabul, working within Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) to develop and implement safeguarding strategies across multiple projects in Afghanistan. The role focuses on preventing and detecting abuse, protecting patient rights, and fostering a safe environment for staff, patients, and communities.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct context analysis and safeguarding risk assessments, identifying past abuse patterns and potential risks.
• Develop and implement a safeguarding strategy with clear actions, timelines, and SMART indicators.
• Integrate safeguarding considerations into recruitment, training, and daily operations for both mobile and country‑based staff.
• Design and deliver awareness‑raising activities for staff, patients, and community members, including training on the Tembo platform and other tools.
• Establish and monitor complaint reporting mechanisms, ensuring confidentiality and timely escalation of incidents.
• Collect, analyse, and report safeguarding data to inform continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Experience working in humanitarian or complex security environments, preferably in Afghanistan.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding, protection, and patient rights frameworks.
• Ability to mentor and build capacity of project teams and focal points.
• Excellent collaboration skills with country coordination, programme heads, and external partners.
