Patrolman (Mechanical Engineer) - Field Operator

About the role

Bayat Power, Afghanistan's largest private electric power production and development company, is hiring a Patrolman (Mechanical Engineer) for its Bayat Power-1 plant. The role ensures the safe, efficient and reliable operation of mechanical systems and auxiliary equipment, including pumps, valves, compressors and the standby diesel generator, in close coordination with the control room and maintenance teams.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor, inspect, operate and record plant parameters in the assigned area, and carry out regular patrols to detect faults by noise, temperature, vibration or visual signs.
• Perform start-up, shutdown and changeover operations, and respond promptly to abnormal conditions, alarms and emergencies.
• Liaise with control room engineers and shift team members, and give technical feedback to maintenance teams for troubleshooting and repairs.
• Take part in scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, including oil changes, engine cleaning, water washing and filter replacement, and test equipment safely before returning it to service.
• Maintain shift logs, equipment status records and operational reports, and support predictive maintenance and condition-based performance data.
• Assist in spare parts specification and procurement, and help prepare technical reports during overhauls, repairs and inspections.
• Operate valves, pumps, compressors and the standby generator, and safely drive vehicles and lifting equipment such as forklifts and man lifts.
• Follow HSE procedures, and carry out housekeeping and minor repairs during routine inspections.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with practical experience in power systems and industrial equipment.
• At least 4 years of hands-on mechanical engineering experience, preferably in power generation, thermal plants or heavy industry.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision during shift-based operations.

Required skills

• Understanding of mechanical design principles: thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, materials science and industrial manufacturing processes.
• Inspection, diagnostics and troubleshooting of turbines, pumps, compressors, valves, piping systems and heat exchangers.
• Familiarity with industrial control systems, plant operation protocols and auxiliary systems such as lubrication and cooling.
• Knowledge of QHSE management systems, risk assessments and emergency response protocols.
