Senior Director Programs – Afghanistan

About the role

CARE is seeking a visionary Senior Director of Programs to provide strategic leadership for its Afghanistan portfolio. Reporting to the Country Director, you will shape the country’s program strategy, ensure high‑impact delivery, and strengthen partnerships with donors, government, UN agencies and local communities.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the overall program strategy for CARE Afghanistan.
• Oversee quality implementation of humanitarian and development projects across the portfolio.
• Lead resource mobilization and business development efforts to secure funding.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, government bodies, UN partners and civil‑society organizations.
• Foster a culture of accountability, learning and continuous improvement within multidisciplinary teams.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in senior program management within humanitarian or development contexts.
• Proven ability to lead large, complex portfolios in challenging environments.
• Strong strategic thinking, analytical and decision‑making skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement capabilities.
