About the role
IMPACT Initiatives is seeking a Research Manager to establish a new research team in Kabul focused on the economy, markets and livelihoods. The role will design the programme, draft concept notes and terms of reference, and secure funding for the team’s start‑up.
Key responsibilities
- Analyse strategic and operational documents to understand current humanitarian priorities on economy, markets and livelihoods.
- Map existing IMPACT data and external research to identify gaps and opportunities for new assessments.
- Engage with national and international NGOs, UN agencies and donors to align research with their programmes.
- Develop concept notes and research terms of reference to attract partner and donor support.
- Coordinate with the Cash Consortium of Afghanistan and the Joint Market Monitoring Initiative to integrate findings.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all data and ensure secure handling of information.
Required profile
- Proven experience in humanitarian programme management, evaluation or assessments, preferably with a focus on economy and market data.
- Strong quantitative and qualitative research design, data collection and analysis skills.
- Experience managing remote or multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Ability to work in a cross‑cultural environment and operate under complex security conditions.
- Master’s degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent extensive work experience.
Required skills
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Statistical analysis software such as R, SPSS or STATA.
What we offer
- Monthly salary of €3,050‑€3,100 (before tax).
- Monthly living allowance of $300 USD.
- Four‑month fixed‑term contract based in Kabul.
