About the role
The Programme Management Assistant provides office support to the Human Rights Service of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA). Based in the UNAMA Regional Office in Gardez, the incumbent reports to the Human Rights Officer/Team Leader and works under the guidance of the Senior Human Rights Officer.
Key responsibilities
- Perform a wide range of administrative and office support functions, including drafting routine correspondence and producing complex documents and reports.
- Monitor, process and schedule the team’s outputs, ensuring required approvals, signatures and compliance with legal and financial requirements.
- Research, compile and organise information for reports, work plans, briefings and meetings.
- Assist with data collection, analysis and presentation related to human‑rights monitoring.
- Update visual material such as brochures and web pages, and generate standard statistical reports using various databases.
- Proofread and edit documents for accuracy, grammar, punctuation and format.
- Respond to information requests, manage calendars, arrange shipments and courier services, and maintain electronic filing systems.
- Provide guidance to less experienced staff on office processes, computer applications and equipment support, including translation and interpretation when required.
Required profile
- Experience in office support and administrative functions within an international or humanitarian context.
- Ability to draft routine correspondence and produce complex documents using standard word‑processing tools.
- Familiarity with data collection, analysis and presentation for monitoring and reporting purposes.
- Strong proofreading and editing skills, with attention to detail.
- Capability to manage calendars, schedules and logistics for shipments and courier services.
- Experience maintaining electronic filing systems and distribution lists.
- Ability to provide guidance to junior staff and to translate or interpret documents as needed.
