Programme Coordinator – Herat, Afghanistan

About the role

The National Programme Coordinator will support the implementation and coordination of UN Women’s humanitarian and development programmes in the western region of Afghanistan. Reporting to the Head of the Herat Sub‑Office, the incumbent will ensure that activities are delivered on time, align with UN Women’s strategic priorities, and promote the meaningful participation of women and girls.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate programme implementation across the Herat province, monitoring progress and performance of implementing partners.
• Facilitate collaboration with provincial authorities, including the DFA, Governor’s Office, and relevant directorates.
• Engage with humanitarian coordination mechanisms, donors, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment and resource mobilization.
• Provide technical support for evidence‑based planning, monitoring, reporting, and knowledge management.
• Promote gender‑responsive approaches and encourage male engagement in programme activities.

Required profile

• Relevant university degree or equivalent experience in international development, humanitarian affairs, or gender equality.
• Demonstrated experience coordinating multi‑partner programmes in complex emergency settings.
• Strong understanding of Afghanistan’s political, economic, and humanitarian context.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.

• Proficiency in English; knowledge of local languages is an asset.
