Principal Coordination Officer

About the role

The Principal Coordination Officer will work in the Integrated Office of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, reporting directly to the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary‑General, Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator. Based in Kabul, the role provides senior coordination and management support across the Development pillar and the broader UN system.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Deputy Special Representative in all duties.
• Formulate and implement the Integrated Office’s substantive work programme.
• Oversee management of activities, ensuring timely delivery and coordination with UN entities.
• Lead and supervise work units within the Integrated Office and coordinate with other UN agencies.
• Provide programmatic reviews on aid coordination architecture, accountability mechanisms, resource mobilisation, and cross‑pillar humanitarian‑development‑peace coordination.
• Report to intergovernmental bodies on budget and programme performance, including biannual and annual reports.
• Manage overall operations of the Integrated Office to ensure efficient substantive coordination support to the UN Country Team.
• Supervise staff, ensure high‑quality outputs, and verify compliance with mandates before finalisation.
