Power Plant Patrolman – Mechanical Engineer

About the role

The Power Plant Patrolman (Mechanical Engineer) ensures safe, efficient and reliable operation of mechanical systems and auxiliary equipment across the plant. The role involves routine monitoring, inspection, operation and maintenance of key assets such as pumps, valves, compressors and the standby diesel generator.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor, inspect, operate and record plant parameters for assigned mechanical equipment.
• Conduct start‑up, shutdown and change‑over procedures for mechanical systems and auxiliary units.
• Identify abnormal conditions, respond to alarms and emergencies, and coordinate actions with the control room.
• Provide technical feedback to maintenance teams, assist in troubleshooting and support scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.
• Perform regular patrols, detect faults via noise, temperature, vibration or visual cues, and maintain accurate shift logs and reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 4 years of hands‑on experience in power generation or heavy‑industrial environments.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and materials science.
• Familiarity with industrial control systems, lubrication and cooling systems used in power plants.
• Ability to work independently on shift‑based operations and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Required skills

• Operation and maintenance of pumps, valves, compressors and standby diesel generators.
• Equipment inspection, diagnostics and routine patrol techniques.
• Troubleshooting of mechanical faults and support for predictive maintenance strategies.
• Use of industrial control systems and monitoring of condition‑based performance data.
• Spare‑parts specification, procurement processes and familiarity with QHSE management systems.
