MHPSS Officer (Maternity Cover)

About the role

The MHPSS Officer (Maternity Cover) will work closely with Health and Nutrition teams to integrate mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) priorities into programme delivery. This temporary position focuses on assessment, coordination, and capacity building to improve community wellbeing.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to East/South/North work plans, ensuring MHPSS integration in health and nutrition programmes.
• Establish collaborations with community stakeholders around MHPSS priorities.
• Coordinate and support multi‑dimensional needs assessments and analyse local MHPSS contexts.
• Develop and implement community awareness activities on MHPSS.
• Conduct and update MHPSS service mappings, vet referral options and maintain referral pathways.
• Review and adapt MHPSS intervention packages, tools and messages for local relevance.
• Provide supportive supervision to PSS Officers, following global standards.
• Assist in developing monitoring plans and support reporting for the MHPSS portfolio.
• Participate in local MHPSS coordination platforms and relevant forums.
• Train and coach Health & Nutrition teams on basic helping skills, Psychological First Aid, safe identification, referral and paraprofessional counselling.
• Design and coordinate mental health promotion and wellbeing activities for health‑care providers.
