MHPSS Officer (Maternity Cover)

About the role

The MHPSS Officer (Maternity Cover) will work closely with Health and Nutrition teams to integrate mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) priorities into programme delivery. This position supports community‑based MHPSS activities, assessments, and referral pathways while providing supervision to PSS Officers.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to East/South/North work plans, ensuring MHPSS priorities are embedded in health and nutrition programmes.
• Build and maintain relationships with community stakeholders to promote MHPSS awareness.
• Coordinate multi‑dimensional needs assessments and analyse local MHPSS contexts.
• Update service mappings, vet referral options, and establish referral mechanisms.
• Review and adapt MHPSS intervention packages, tools, and messages for local relevance.
• Provide weekly/bi‑weekly individual supervision and monthly group supervision to PSS Officers.
• Develop monitoring plans for the MHPSS portfolio and support reporting.
• Participate in local MHPSS coordination platforms and relevant forums.
• Train and coach Health & Nutrition teams on basic helping skills, Psychological First Aid, safe identification, referral, and paraprofessional counselling.
• Design and implement mental health promotion activities for health‑care providers.
