About the role
UN Volunteer Specialists are needed to provide primary and emergency medical care to UN personnel in Afghanistan. The role supports health promotion, occupational health, and emergency medical preparedness in a challenging operational environment.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver primary, acute and chronic care, including diagnosis, treatment and follow‑up for UN staff.
- Provide 24/7 on‑call emergency coverage, stabilize patients and coordinate medical evacuations.
- Support mass‑casualty preparedness, maintain trauma kits and ensure emergency equipment readiness.
- Conduct occupational health examinations, immunizations, travel health advice and chronic disease monitoring.
- Deliver first‑aid, CPR, trauma response training and support CASEVAC simulations.
- Manage medical inventories, prepare activity reports and contribute to operational planning.
Required profile
- Medical degree in General Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Occupational Medicine or related field.
- Minimum five years of progressive clinical experience in high‑acuity settings.
- Valid license to practice medicine.
- Professional certifications such as BLS, ACLS, PHTLS or equivalent.
- Fluency in English.
Required skills
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) certification.
