MEAL Assistant – Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Learning

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a MEAL Assistant to support data collection, monitoring, and reporting for humanitarian programmes in Afghanistan. You will work closely with field teams to ensure accurate, timely data and help improve programme quality.

Key responsibilities

• Orient and train data collectors on accurate and timely data collection and reporting.
• Collect, enter, and verify data, maintaining updated databases.
• Conduct regular monitoring visits to project sites and produce field visit reports.
• Facilitate focus group discussions, especially with women, to gather qualitative information.
• Provide feedback from weekly and monthly reports to stakeholders and advise the Kabul office on strengths, weaknesses, and successes.
• Track progress toward project objectives and assist in preparing graphic presentations for periodic reports.
• Conduct client responsiveness and accountability awareness‑raising sessions.
• Document lessons learned, best practices, and success stories throughout the project lifecycle.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in economics, BBA, International Relations, Law, Political Science, Computer Science, or equivalent with at least 3 years relevant MEAL experience.
• Minimum 2 years of MEAL experience with national or international organisations.
• Ability to travel frequently to district‑level project sites.
• Excellent written and verbal English, Pashto, and Dari skills.

Required skills

• Data collection using Kobo and CammCare on tablets or smartphones.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to prepare tabular and graphic presentations.
