About the role
Ciena is seeking a Manager to lead Global Commodity Operations across its supply chain. The role oversees supplier performance, drives shortage mitigation, and partners with planning, inventory, and product teams in a fast‑paced, high‑technology manufacturing environment.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor supplier delivery performance, identify risks early, and execute recovery plans to protect supply continuity.
- Lead, coach and develop a global team of commodity specialists, setting priorities, performance expectations and operating rhythms.
- Govern end‑to‑end supplier onboarding, ensuring qualification, documentation, compliance and ERP setup are completed accurately.
- Coordinate supplier business‑readiness across Quality, Engineering, Legal, Finance, Planning and Procurement.
- Maintain accurate supplier pricing, lead times and MOQ data in procurement systems with strong controls.
- Facilitate RFQs, quotation consolidation and preliminary commercial analysis to provide decision‑ready sourcing support.
- Collect data for supplier scorecards, KPI dashboards and Quarterly Business Review materials to drive accountability.
- Drive continuous‑improvement, automation and digitalisation initiatives to enhance efficiency and stakeholder experience.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, Engineering or related field.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing, procurement or commodity management, including people leadership.
- Experience managing global suppliers in high‑technology manufacturing (electronics, telecom, networking, semiconductor).
- Strong analytical and financial acumen – cost modelling, spend analysis and total cost of ownership.
- Proven ability to operate in a matrixed, global environment and manage ambiguity.
