About the role

The United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) is seeking two Field Security Coordination Officers to support its mission in Kabul, Afghanistan. Reporting to the Principal Security Adviser through the Chief SIOC, the officers will provide security leadership, risk analysis and operational coordination across the country’s duty stations.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse evolving security trends and contribute to forecasting the security environment for UN operations.
• Develop and implement risk‑management strategies, security plans and contingency measures.
• Prepare, review and update security risk‑management documents and provide written analyses of incidents and trends.
• Participate in meetings, committees and task forces, delivering briefings and drafting papers on security issues.
• Provide security coverage and advice to UN staff in Kabul and other duty stations as required, including travel outside the capital.

Required profile

• Relevant experience in security coordination, risk assessment or related fields, preferably in complex or high‑risk environments.
• Strong analytical and critical‑thinking abilities, with capacity to interpret multi‑dimensional threats.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Willingness to work in a designated “E” hardship location and to travel within Afghanistan.
