About the role
As the regional authority for manufacturing quality across APAC, the Director will lead the execution of Ciena’s quality strategy, aligning objectives with business priorities, customer expectations and operational goals.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the implementation of the Manufacturing Quality strategy across APAC, ensuring alignment with regional business goals.
- Build and develop a geographically distributed quality organization, fostering technical excellence and continuous improvement.
- Establish and manage a quality governance framework for contract manufacturers and suppliers, including performance management and risk reviews.
- Act as an independent quality authority across Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and partner organizations, guaranteeing compliance with product and process standards.
- Drive quality transformation initiatives targeting defect reduction, process capability, reliability, cycle‑time, cost of poor quality and customer satisfaction.
- Partner with Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations and Customer Quality to ensure quality readiness for new product introductions, manufacturing transfers and site expansions.
- Lead escalation management for complex customer and manufacturing quality issues, overseeing root‑cause analysis and corrective actions.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing or a related technical discipline; advanced degree preferred.
- 15+ years of experience in manufacturing quality, supplier quality or operations within complex high‑technology environments.
- 5+ years of people‑leadership experience managing managers, senior technical professionals and cross‑functional teams.
- Proven track record leading quality programs across contract manufacturing, supplier and manufacturing operations.
Required skills
- Application of quality systems, manufacturing process controls, reliability methodologies and supplier quality management.
- Structured problem‑solving techniques, risk‑based decision making and use of quality analytics.
- Certifications or training in Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, Quality Management Systems, Operational Excellence or Reliability Engineering.
- Experience with APQP, PPAP, FMEA, DOE, SPC, MSA and related quality frameworks.
