Deputy Area Director – Program (Herat)

About the role

Solidarités International is seeking a Deputy Area Director – Program to lead its humanitarian activities in Herat, Afghanistan. The position starts on 1 September 2026 and runs for a nine‑month mission, overseeing program implementation, coordination and reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise the design, implementation and monitoring of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and livelihood programmes across the area.
• Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary team of expatriate and national staff.
• Coordinate with local authorities, partners and donors to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
• Ensure compliance with organisational policies, donor requirements and security protocols.
• Prepare regular progress reports, budgets and resource allocation plans.

Required profile

• Relevant university degree (e.g., International Development, Public Health, Engineering).
• Proven experience in program or project management within humanitarian or development contexts.
• Strong understanding of WASH interventions and food security initiatives.
• Ability to work in challenging security environments and adapt to cultural norms.
