About the role
The Communications Specialist will promote DRC's mission and work in Afghanistan, creating high‑quality, context‑sensitive communications materials that showcase program impact and priorities.
Key responsibilities
- Support the Advocacy and Communications Coordinator in developing and implementing the annual communications plan.
- Coordinate day‑to‑day communications activities across DRC offices in Afghanistan and maintain a communications calendar linked to program milestones and donor priorities.
- Develop a range of communications products, including stories, briefs, factsheets, web articles, newsletters, social media content, photographs, short videos, and infographics.
- Produce and coordinate Afghanistan‑related content for DRC digital and social media channels, ensuring branding and messaging consistency.
- Support media engagement by preparing background information, key messages, media briefs, and assisting spokespersons.
- Work with program and donor teams to meet visibility requirements and acknowledge donor contributions in communications materials.
- Provide guidance and coaching to field staff on ethical storytelling, branding, and donor visibility, and review field‑generated materials.
Required profile
- Minimum three years of professional experience in communications, media, or public information, preferably in the humanitarian or development sector.
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling abilities, with a strong understanding of ethical storytelling, safeguarding, and conflict‑sensitive communications.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing deadlines, and deliver quality outputs in a complex operational environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, political science, international development, or a related field.
- Advanced professional proficiency in English and fluency in Dari and Pashto.

- Coordination of media contacts and preparation of interview materials.
- Management of digital and social media channels, including content creation and performance monitoring.
