About the role
The Communications Specialist will promote DRC’s mission and work in Afghanistan, supporting visibility, positioning and external communications through high‑quality, context‑sensitive materials.
Key responsibilities
- Support the Advocacy and Communications Coordinator in developing and implementing the annual communications plan and coordinate day‑to‑day communications activities across DRC offices in Afghanistan.
- Produce high‑quality communications products such as impact stories, briefs, factsheets, web articles, newsletters, social media content, photographs, short videos and infographics, ensuring ethical storytelling and donor visibility requirements.
- Manage digital and social media channels, maintain a repository of visual materials, and monitor performance to improve reach and engagement.
- Support media relations by preparing background information, key messages, media briefs and assisting senior staff for interviews and high‑level events.
- Provide guidance and coaching to field staff, review their communications outputs and help establish a network of communications focal points across Afghanistan.
Required profile
- Minimum three years of professional experience in communications, media or public information, preferably within the humanitarian or development sector.
- Excellent writing, editing and storytelling abilities, with experience producing diverse communications materials for different audiences.
- Strong understanding of ethical storytelling, safeguarding, informed consent and conflict‑sensitive communication.
- Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, political science, international development or a related field.
- Advanced professional English and fluency in Dari and Pashto.
Required skills
- Content creation for print and digital platforms, including articles, newsletters, social media posts and short videos.
- Photo and video handling, basic editing and archiving.
- Media monitoring and engagement.
- Coordination of donor visibility requirements and compliance with branding standards.
