Assistant Field Translator

About the role

The Assistant Field Translator supports the Head of the Language Unit at the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) in Kabul. The role focuses on facilitating communication between parties speaking different languages and ensuring accurate translation of written and spoken content.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in research and communication between non‑speaking parties by converting spoken or written language.
• Support translators during meetings, conferences and visits, mediating discussions.
• Interpret spoken communication into sign language for hearing‑impaired audiences.
• Translate and proofread documents, publications, web pages and other materials.
• Utilise dictionaries, glossaries and computer‑assisted translation tools.
• Facilitate communication for individuals with limited English proficiency.
• Accompany foreign visitors and ensure clear interaction with host parties.
• Contribute to data collection, analysis and visualization for reporting and decision‑making.
