Research Manager

About the role

The Research Manager leads all research activities at BarmBarm Research and Innovation Center, reporting to the Head of Office. The role is responsible for designing, supervising, and delivering high‑quality research that informs policy and practice in Afghanistan.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and approve the research strategy, annual agenda, workplans and policies.
• Select priority research topics based on national needs and evidence.
• Oversee the full research cycle from concept, methodology, data collection, analysis to reporting.
• Supervise research staff, assign tasks, set deadlines and review performance.
• Ensure ethical standards, data quality, confidentiality and compliance with AI and plagiarism policies.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in research methods or a related social science field; doctorate preferred.
• Minimum five years of research experience, including at least two years in supervisory or managerial roles.
• Track record of at least ten completed research studies or substantial publications.
• Proven ability to develop research policies, procedures and quality‑control systems.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office proficiency.
• Experience with KoboToolbox or ODK for data collection.
• Working knowledge of statistical packages such as SPSS, Stata, R or Python.
• Familiarity with qualitative analysis tools like NVivo or Atlas.ti.
• Strong knowledge of quantitative, qualitative and mixed‑method research design.
