Nurse (Re Announced)

About the role

ACBAR, the agency coordinating body for Afghan Relief and Development, is re-announcing a nurse position within INTERSOS Afghanistan. The role contributes to reducing morbidity and mortality linked to malnutrition, disease and hazards caused by weak health and nutrition services, environmental health conditions and protection risks in conflict-affected communities across the provinces of Afghanistan.

Key responsibilities

• Triage sick patients and orient them to the right person (midwife, medical assistant or physician).
• Provide direct nursing care: dressing, catheterization, vital signs and medication.
• Prepare the observation room and maintain its equipment.
• Give first aid to emergency cases following guidelines and under the physician's direction.
• Monitor the cleanliness, sterilization and storage of medical instruments.
• Supervise the nurse aide and follow universal precautions.
• Educate patients on the benefits of routine immunization, vaccine side effects and the importance of keeping their cards.
• Refer ill patients to the appropriate clinic staff and assist them when patient flow is light.
• Support community-based identification of malnutrition cases through screening of children aged 6-59 months, pregnant and lactating women, and follow up on defaulters.
• Ensure proper registration and admission/discharge of OTP patients, with ongoing monitoring.
• Carry out any other duties assigned by the line supervisor.

Required profile

• Nursing certificate.
• At least 2 years of relevant work experience.
• Pashto and Dari skills required; English is preferable.
• Experience in emergency response health projects and with an international NGO is preferable.
• Commitment to INTERSOS principles and compliance with its policies and procedures.
• Strong organizational and communication skills, and willingness to travel and stay overnight at the service delivery point.
