Monitoring Officer – UN Volunteer (Afghanistan)

About the role

The UN Volunteer will join UNICEF’s Planning, Monitoring and Data section in Kabul, supporting programme monitoring and data management for the country programme. Working under the Monitoring Specialist, the volunteer will help design, implement and improve monitoring systems across sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Support the management and improvement of programme monitoring systems and tools, including digital platforms, field monitoring, third‑party monitoring and community‑based mechanisms.
• Assist programme sections and zonal offices in developing and implementing annual and quarterly monitoring plans.
• Conduct quality‑assurance reviews of monitoring plans to ensure alignment with priorities and UNICEF standards.
• Coordinate Programme Monitoring Visits and Field Monitoring Modules, track action points and follow up on recommendations.
• Analyse monitoring data, prepare analytical reports, dashboards and presentations for management and programme teams.
• Develop and deliver capacity‑building plans for partners, field offices and self‑development in monitoring and reporting.

Required profile

• At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in programme planning, implementation, monitoring and data analysis.
• Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, statistics, development planning, programme planning, monitoring or a related field.
• Working knowledge of English, Dari and Pashto.
