Logistics Associate (Workshop Supervisor/Foreman)

About the role

The World Food Programme (WFP) is recruiting a Logistics Associate (Workshop Supervisor/Foreman) in Herat. The post is responsible for supervising all WFP vehicular asset repairs and maintenance in the country office and coordinating these activities in line with WFP procedures, normative guidelines and business rules.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise scheduled maintenance, repair, overhaul, reconditioning and modifications so that all vehicles stay roadworthy.
• Control the materials side of the operation: justify and issue spare parts, tyres, lubricants and consumables, and help forecast and requisition them.
• Maintain an inventory list of tools and workshop equipment, and supervise staff, including time-keeping and timesheets.
• Help control vehicle costs, investigate ways to reduce fleet maintenance costs, and use VMRS codes and reason-for-repair data to recommend improvements.
• Supervise tyre management, oil and lubricant quality, and ensure vehicles are tracked by VHF/HF radio and GPS.
• Keep workshop administration, vehicle history records and repair, tyre and stock data accurate in the Fleet Management System (FMS), and review reports before they are distributed.
• Ensure compliance with WFP policies, health and safety and environmental requirements, and that staff follow their job descriptions.
• Share data and experience with the fleet team, travel occasionally, and perform other duties asked by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Secondary school education, supplemented by vocational training in automotive service technology or mechanical/technical training for light and heavy vehicles; a diploma in Automotive Engineering or another relevant diploma is preferred.
• At least 6 years' experience as a Fleet Officer, Workshop Supervisor or similar role in a company or NGO.
• Driver's licence to operate commercial or light vehicles according to local rules.
• Fluency in English and in local languages (Pashto/Dari).

Required skills

• Good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
• Experience with a computerised Fleet Management System.
