Senior Programme Manager – Polio Programme (Fixed‑Term)

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a Senior Programme Manager to lead the Polio Programme in the Southern Region of Afghanistan. The role will provide strategic leadership, policy advocacy and coordination with national authorities, WHO and other humanitarian partners to accelerate polio eradication and strengthen routine immunisation.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall managerial oversight of the Polio Programme across Kandahar and Helmand provinces.
• Drive policy dialogue and advocacy with local authorities and community leaders.
• Represent UNICEF at the Regional Emergency Operations Center and ensure close coordination with WHO counterparts.
• Oversee implementation of eradication strategies, including monitoring, evaluation and innovation.
• Ensure integration of polio activities with routine immunisation, nutrition and primary health services.
• Prepare and manage programme plans, budgets and reporting in line with UNICEF and ACO guidance.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in public‑health programme management, preferably in immunisation or disease eradication.
• Proven ability to lead multi‑stakeholder initiatives in complex, security‑sensitive environments.
• Strong knowledge of polio eradication strategies and WHO/UNICEF guidelines.
• Excellent communication and advocacy skills with government and partner agencies.
• Ability to work under pressure and adapt operational plans as needed.
