Midwife – Reproductive Health

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking an experienced Midwife to join its reproductive health team in Nangarhar. The role focuses on delivering high‑quality clinical care, family‑planning counseling, and safe delivery services to communities affected by humanitarian crises.

Key responsibilities

• Provide client‑centered reproductive health services, including counseling on birth spacing and method mix.
• Conduct triage, screening, and clinical assessments, taking reproductive health histories and determining medical eligibility for contraceptives.
• Perform basic and assisted deliveries, and deliver the full range of short‑ and long‑acting contraceptive methods (implant, IUD, injectables).
• Carry out neonatal and obstetric resuscitation as needed and refer patients to the nearest Emergency Obstetric Care centre.
• Supervise and mentor community health volunteers, ensuring quality of counseling and injection techniques.
• Provide antenatal and postnatal care following national and international protocols, and promote health education and infection‑prevention measures.

Required profile

• Qualified midwife with certification to provide delivery and family‑planning services.
• Experience working in humanitarian or low‑resource settings is preferred.
• Strong ability to work collaboratively with community leaders, health volunteers, and IRC staff.
• Commitment to rights‑based, non‑directive counseling and safe clinical practice.
