Senior Migration & Mobility Research Consultant – Geopolitical Shocks Report

About the role

The International Organization for Migration is seeking a senior specialist to lead the analytical work for a flagship report on how geopolitical shocks reshape population movements. Based in Kabul, you will work closely with the Chief of Mission, the Senior Programme Coordinator, and IOM colleagues across Afghanistan, the region, and headquarters.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement the analytical framework for the report.
• Collect, clean, and analyse data on return policies, deportations, border restrictions, regional conflicts, economic crises and major policy shifts.
• Interpret findings and draft evidence‑based recommendations.
• Coordinate with IOM field, regional and HQ teams to ensure data quality and relevance.
• Prepare and present draft sections, visualisations and final recommendations to senior management.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in migration studies, geopolitics, international relations or a related field.
• Proven experience in research and analysis of population movements, preferably in conflict‑affected settings.
• Experience delivering consultancy‑type analytical products.
• Strong written communication skills in English.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines in a challenging environment.
