Protection Officer (Psychosocial Support)

About the role

The Protection Officer (Psychosocial Support) will work under the supervision of the Protection Team Leader in Herat to deliver psychosocial counseling and awareness-raising activities to project beneficiaries and target communities. The role involves direct interaction with individuals, groups, and community leaders to address stressors and support survivors of gender‑based violence.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and maintain positive relations with beneficiaries, community members, humanitarian actors, and other stakeholders.
• Develop and implement a field activities plan in coordination with the Protection Team Leader.
• Provide individual and group psychosocial counseling and awareness sessions at community centers and urban hubs.
• Identify major stressors in the community and offer technical support for coping strategies.
• Facilitate safe, structured and non‑structured psychosocial activities, including child‑friendly spaces.
• Lead group therapy sessions for SGBV survivors and women at risk.
• Conduct capacity‑building trainings for protection officers, community leaders, and partners on basic counseling and case‑management practices.
• Ensure case files are opened, closed, and stored according to international standards and data‑protection protocols.
• Carry out interviews, surveys, psychosocial evaluations, home visits, and referrals as needed.

Required profile

• Experience in providing psychosocial counseling to vulnerable populations.
• Familiarity with gender‑based violence (SGBV) issues and survivor support.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to data‑protection standards.
• Strong interpersonal skills for building trust with communities.
