Deputy Country Director – Program (M/F)

About the role

The Deputy Country Director – Program (M/F) will work closely with the Country Director to provide strategic leadership for Solidarités International’s programmes in Afghanistan. The role ensures that WASH, Disaster Risk Reduction and Natural Resource Management activities are evidence‑based, conflict‑sensitive, and aligned with the needs of affected communities across multiple provinces.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design, implementation and monitoring of programme strategies in line with organisational standards.
• Ensure internal coherence of programme activities, adapting plans to evolving security and humanitarian contexts.
• Oversee budgeting, resource allocation and financial reporting for a portfolio of grants totaling approximately €5.5 million.
• Supervise national and international staff, fostering a high‑performance, accountable team culture.
• Collaborate with partners such as Humanity & Inclusion, Save the Children, INTERSOS and Médecins du Monde to deliver joint interventions.
• Provide regular updates to donors, senior management and external stakeholders.

Required profile

• Significant experience in senior programme management within humanitarian or development settings.
• Proven ability to lead multi‑disciplinary teams in complex, conflict‑affected environments.
• Strong understanding of WASH, DRR and NRM sectors and related funding mechanisms.
• Excellent analytical, strategic thinking and adaptability skills.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages is an advantage.
