Shelter and settlement (WASI) Officer

About the role

The Shelter and settlement (WASI) Officer – also referred to as a Watershed Engineer – will support DRC Afghanistan’s efforts to improve water and land resource management. Working under the WASI Team Leader, the officer will ensure that watershed interventions are technically sound, environmentally appropriate, and aligned with project standards.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct field assessments, baseline surveys and technical measurements of catchment characteristics, topography, soil and erosion patterns.
• Support the planning, design, implementation and monitoring of watershed management interventions.
• Coordinate with DRC Economic Recovery, HDP, Protection teams, local authorities and communities to ensure integrated programming.
• Ensure interventions meet approved designs, engineering standards, cost‑effectiveness and donor guidelines.
• Prepare timely reports and contribute to MEAL activities for performance assessment.

Required profile

• Experience in watershed engineering or related water resources management.
• Ability to work closely with line departments, local communities and project counterparts.
• Strong understanding of climate‑related risks such as flood, erosion and groundwater recharge.
• Good coordination skills to liaise with multiple DRC teams and external stakeholders.
