MHPSS Counsellor

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is looking for a Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Counsellor to join its team in Kunduz. The counsellor will provide individual and group counseling within IRC clinics and primary health care settings, develop community‑based psychosocial activities, and support the implementation of MHPSS projects.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver one‑on‑one and group counseling sessions to identified clients in line with IRC’s integrated approach.
• Develop and facilitate psychosocial activities, community mobilization, and awareness‑raising events.
• Support the MHPSS Supervisor in training delivery, material creation, and workshop facilitation.
• Coordinate referrals and collaborate with PHC staff and mental‑health teams.
• Collect and report data, assist in monitoring and evaluation, and prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
• Participate in field surveys, needs assessments, and internal meetings.

Required profile

• Relevant degree or certification in counseling, psychology, social work or a related field.
• Experience providing mental health or psychosocial support in humanitarian or low‑resource settings.
• Ability to work collaboratively with community mobilizers, health staff and supervisors.
• Strong communication skills in English; knowledge of local languages is an asset.
• Flexibility to adapt activities to the needs of children, women and other target groups.
